The NHS COVID-19 app has launched nationally and is available to everyone aged 16 and over in England and Wales.
The NHS COVID-19 will:
- help the NHS understand where and how quickly the virus is spreading, so it can respond effectively.
- help the NHS understand if the virus is spreading in a particular area, and so local authorities can respond quickly to stop it spreading further and save lives.
- be used, alongside traditional contact tracing, to notify users if they come into contact with someone who later tests positive for coronavirus.
- alert people at risk of coronavirus, asking them to isolate before they potentially pass the virus on to others as well as providing local area alerts and QR venue check-in.
How do I get the NHS COVID-19 app?
If you have an Apple phone, you can download the app from the Apple App Store.
If you have an Android phone, you can download it from Google Play.
The app is designed for use on smartphones only, not tablets. This is because for contact tracing to be effective, it needs to be on a device that you carry with you most of the time.
For more help on downloading the app, see this user guide.
If you’re having issues downloading the app, visit the troubleshooting common questions, or report a problem using the online form.
