Come and Have Fun with Other Young Carers

It’s not all so serious, we also have lots of clubs and activities to help you to have fun, relax, take a break and meet other Young Carers.

From cookery lessons to ice skating, we have it all!

Sometimes Young Carers find it hard to see their school friends as they have to be home after school and at weekends, this can mean sometimes that you feel left out or isolated.

All of our activities are for Young Carers only so you know that you will be with other people who understand what it means to be a Young Carer and you can make new friends with people that may be going through similar things to you.

Wednesday Evening Hubs

Every other Wednesday we have a great evening club where you can meet other young carers and take part in lots of fantastic activities such as:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Therapy dog visits
  • Chickenshed theatre workshops
  • Hip-hop dancing
  • X box and Nintendo Switch
  • Sports and games
  • Chatting and relaxing

The clubs run from 5.30pm – 7.30pm every other week either at Enfield Carers Centre or at different locations across the borough as appropriate.  ECC staff will always be present.

If you need help getting here we can send somebody to come and pick you up.

Once you are registered with Enfield Carers Centre and we have consent from your parents or guardians, all you need to do is let us know if you would you like to come along.

Give us a call or get your parent or guardian to call us and we will tell you all about it, come along, we’d love to see you.

We also arrange regular outings and activities such as:

  • Seaside trips
  • BMX biking

Some of our Young Carer recent activities have included

Our 5 Golden Rules

On Wednesday 3rd May 2023, Chickenshed helped our Young Carers to make our 5 Golden Rules into a rap.

Our 5 Golden Rules:

  1. Have fun
  2. Be safe
  3. Be kind
  4. Respect each other and people’s belongings
  5. Listen to each other and staff

Watch the Young Carers performing the Golden Rules on this video and join in with them.

Golden Rules Rap Lyrics:

I’m not someone who acts a fool

Cos I just like to follow the golden rules

Have fun, be safe, and of course be kind

Just a few couple golden rules of mine

Don’t forget to listen, respect each other

Whether that’s your friends, teacher, sister, brother

Visit to Sealife Adventure at Southend – Summer 2024

In August, our Young Carers visited Sealife Adventure at Southend, funded by an Educational Visits Grant from the Jack Petchey Foundation.

We discovered piranhas, penguins, butterflies, meerkats, and even dinosaurs!

We then went to the beach, where we had ice-creams, created mermaids out of seaweed, and practiced Tik-Tok dances in the sea!

Kenwood House – Summer 2024

On Wednesday 28th August 2024, our Young Carers visited Kenwood House as part of our Heritage Project.

We had a tour round the house and the Stephen Farthing exhibition and created our own ‘Swagger Portraits’ through collage!

We loved hearing about Dido and dressing up, and we discovered where they kept their chamber pots!

A big thank you to English Heritage and London Youth for organising the trip, and for the fantastic volunteers and facilitators who led the tours and workshop!

Jack Petchey lunch 2024

In August 2024, our Young Carers enjoyed a ‘Cheeky Nando’s’ – this was Jessica’s choice of trip after she won a Jack Petchey Achievement Award earlier this year!

A big thank you to Jessica and the Jack Petchey Foundation for making this trip possible!

Woodrow High House for a weekend residential

In June 2024, a group of Young Carers from Enfield Carers Centre visited Woodrow High House for a weekend residential, funded by the Jack Petchey Foundation.

We learnt which plants were safe to eat, how to light fires, and how to cook popcorn on an open fire in our Bushcraft session.

We improved our teamwork skills by avoiding obstacles whilst blindfolded in Nightline and by completing the Challenge Course.

We honed our Archery skills, participated in a site-wide Scavenger Hunt, tried to prevent a water balloon from popping in Drop It, Pop It, had a water fight, and toasted marshmallows whilst listening to ghost stories around the Campfire.

Lion King 2024

Our young carers had a fabulous time watching ‘The Lion King’ at the theatre in May!

Many thanks to the Jack Petchey Foundation who funded this trip through Deborah’s Jack Petchey Achievement Award.

Easter 2024

EyPIC would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated Easter Eggs to Young Carers in Enfield through the Field Dames WI, Blake and Horlock, and MP Feryal Clark.

We had an egg-cellent time at Woodcroft Wildspace! We went pond dipping, minibeast and plant hunting, and orienteering. We discovered newts, frogs, centipedes, and lots of mud!

A big thank you to Bob and the team at Woodcroft Wildspace, and our fabulous volunteer Ros, for making it such a successful day!

Young Carers say “thank you”

Summer 2023

On Wednesday 16th August, a group of EyPIC Young Carers visited a mini-golf course! For some of our Young Carers, it was their first time playing golf!

They enjoyed meeting other young carers (and eating pizza!) – one Young Carer was particularly delighted to be at an event with pizza so soon after requesting it in an evaluation form!

Summer 2023

On Wednesday 9th August, a group of EyPIC Young Carers visited Hampstead Heath for a day of outdoor activities led by the brilliant Nick White, Learning Officer for Youth with the City of London Corporation’s Environment Department.

We worked as a team to create shelters from the elements and transported tennis balls (and water!) using pipes.

We visited the Secret Garden where we practiced fire lighting, toasted marshmallows, went hunting for bugs, discovered water creatures when pond dipping, and created eco-art!

Easter 2023

Our EyPIC Young Carers had a fabulous time on Wednesday 12th April 2023 at our Easter Egg Hunt!

Our Young Carers searched high and low for clues, and enjoyed discovering Easter jokes!

The incredible Rab Ferguson, author of The Late Crew, made his own epic journey across the country to deliver a workshop with our Young Carers, helping them to create their own aliens, planets, and stories!

Thank you so much to everyone who donated eggs, especially Feryal Clark MP, Aldi, and Blake and Horlock; thanks to Rab Ferguson for delivering a brilliant workshop for our Young Carers; and thanks also to the phenomenal Phyl for volunteering at the event!

‘Make your own aliens’ workshop

Rab Ferguson, author of The Late Crew, a story about Young Carers meeting aliens, led a ‘make your own aliens’ workshop for our Young Carers online in December.

Our Young Carers imagined aliens either by drawing or writing (their choice) and created the start of their own story.

EyPIC have been on some fantastic trips over this summer holiday!

Epping Forest

On Monday 26th and Thursday 29th July, we went to Epping Forest and took part in activities led by Kate from the City of London Open Spaces Department.

We went orienteering using maps to explore the forest, created our own spectacular shelters, learnt how to light a fire, and heated up our own hot chocolate!

Myddelton House Gardens

On Wed 11th August, the knowledgeable Jo gave us a brilliant tour around Myddelton House Gardens, organised through Lee Valley Regional Park Authority.

We discovered more about the history of the house, found some incredible recycled items (some from Enfield Town Marketplace and Tower Bridge), found out more about the plants and creatures that live there, and completed a nature scavenger hunt.

There were some HUGE sunflowers!

During Carers Week 2021, our Young Carers designed some brilliant tote bags and T-shirts. Many thanks to the Jack Petchey Foundation whose Achievement Award grants made this possible!
