Even the most dedicated Carers sometimes long for some time for themselves, when they can stop, relax and think about themselves for a change, if only for a little while. Our “Time For A Break” scheme provides the opportunity for you to do just that.

An initial and fundamental way to help Carers is to have a Carers Assessment.

A Carers Assessment is an opportunity to discuss your caring role and how it affects your life and wellbeing, your health (physical and emotional), your feelings and choices about caring, work, study, training, leisure, relationships, social activities and your goals and planning for emergencies (such as Enfield’s Carer Emergency Card Scheme).

Health & Wellbeing

We offer a number of practical Health & Wellbeing workshops covering a variety of topics. See below for dates.

Sleeping can often be difficult when you are caring for someone. In this session, we will discuss some simple strategies to help manage sleeping problems.

Worry & Anxiety
There can be a lot of things to worry about as a Carer, but sometimes worry can take over and make you feel anxious and low. We will teach some strategies to help you deal with anxiety.

Problem Solving
Learn the five stages of problem solving. It can help when you feel worried or overwhelmed with practical problems.

This session will focus on the importance and value of taking time out and teaching relaxation techniques which you can use at home.

See below for some dates, read our latest newsletter or look at our ‘Events’ menu option.

DID YOU KNOW? Some GP practices in Enfield have signed up to offer annual health checks to Carers, but if your surgery doesn’t know you are a Carer, you may be missing out.

  • Tell your GP surgery you are a Carer and ask to be added to their Carer register
  • Ask your GP for an appointment for an Annual Health Check – it is your right!

Exercise and Relaxation Sessions

Come and join us every Monday* for gentle exercise / fun chair dance at the Carers Centre

Meet up with fellow Carers, listen to some music and enjoy doing some gentle exercise together.

It will help you to relax and take a break from your caring role whilst also helping you build positive physical and mental wellbeing.

Suitable for all ages and abilities.   We look forward to seeing you!

Social Activities

Fancy a break? A trip to the cinema? A night out at the theatre? A meal out? A massage?

We arrange a variety of breaks aimed at giving Carers a break from caring. These might include individual or group activities such as short breaks away (at home or abroad); days out; restaurants meals; trips to the cinema etc.

Most activities are just for Carers, so that you get a real break from caring, but occasionally we organise activities which are open to Carers and cared-for persons.

Our activities change all the time, so if you don’t see anything you like now, there might be something else that interests you in future. Make sure that you’re registered with the Centre and that way we can keep you updated, by post or email, with what’s happening.

We may also be able to help you to apply for a grant to have a break with or without your cared for person. Ask the support team for more information.

Specialised therapeutic massage – “found it very relaxing and helpful, encouraging me to go to the gym more often and come out of the depressive mood that I sometimes fall [into] as a result of the pressures of my son’s condition and work juggling responsibilities”— Ian
