YOUNG ADULT CARERS
Are you nearly 18?
If you’re a young carer getting close to your 18th birthday, you have the right to a Transitional Assessment. This is something our team at Enfield Carers Centre can help you with.
A Transitional Assessment is for young people under 18 who are expected to keep a significant caring role after turning 18. It’s a chance to talk about what support you might need as you move into adulthood, so that the right help is ready for you when you become an Adult Carer.
Think of it as a check-in before things change, a space to chat about how caring affects your life, your education, your job plans, and your wellbeing. You can talk about what’s working well, what’s tricky, and what kind of support would make things easier.
We especially recommend arranging your assessment around six months before your 18th birthday. That way, there’s plenty of time to plan ahead and make sure you’ve got the right support in place.
You don’t have to do this on your own; our team understands what it’s like to balance caring with everything else going on in your life. We’re here to listen, offer advice, and help you get the support you deserve.
The Assessment has to be undertaken by the borough where your cared for person lives. In Enfield, if you are caring for a child under 18, your Carers Assessment can only be done by an Enfield Council Social Worker.
