Using NHS services
Staying well this winter
With the arrival of winter, the NHS in north London wants to support residents to stay well and know where to turn for care during the colder months.
Last winter saw a sharp rise in A&E attendances, often for illnesses that could have been treated more quickly by other NHS services.
Your local NHS
As Christmas approaches, the NHS is sharing practical advice to help residents know where to turn to get help quickly when it’s not an emergency, whether that’s your local pharmacist, GP or NHS 111.
Clear guidance is available from the campaign’s London Winter Wellness hub which provides information for anyone looking for health tips, on:
- Using Pharmacy First, for fast help with minor illnesses
- Accessing evening and weekend GP appointments
- Getting free medicines if on a low income with Self-Care Medicines Scheme
- Accessing urgent care, mental health support, and dental care
Together, we can help everyone stay well this winter, protecting themselves, easing pressure on busy NHS services, and making sure urgent care is available for those who need it.
If it’s a life-threatening emergency, dial 999.
